Dive headfirst into the world of espionage with the Spy Museum. With engaging hands-on activities, specialized U.S. spy history tours, top secret family guides and artifacts as old as the founding of our country. Plus, a free one-mile walking tour through the heart of Washington, DC.

Red, White, and Spy: Tradecraft Try-Its (June 19 – July 12, 2026)

Curious about writing in invisible ink like George Washington or passing secret notes like Virginia Hall? Try hands-on spy skills inspired by American history, designed for ages 9+. Indoor exhibit activities require valid Museum admission; free activities will also be offered on the outdoor plaza (weather permitting). No registration required.

Original Feb 1777 George Washington Letter

A commemoration of 250 years is incomplete without this one-of-a-kind artifact straight from the hand of America's first Spymaster, George Washington. This letter, written in February 1777 to Nathaniel Sackett, set up the first spy network in the country and served as the launching point for the famous Culper Spy Ring, responsible in part for turning the tide of the American Revolution.

Tour: United States of Espionage

From revolutionary nation to world superpower, the United States’ history is deeply intertwined with the development of modern espionage and intelligence. Each skilled volunteer guide will personalize the tour content and bring it to life for visitors. Tours will last 45 minutes to an hour, and will host up to 19 attendees to ensure a premium experience. Attendees must be 16 years old to participate.

New Exhibit: Camouflage: Designed to Deceive

This special exhibition Camouflage: Designed to Deceive is an immersive exploration of things hiding in plain sight, centering on four main principles within the science of camouflage: disappear, distort, disguise, and deceive. The exhibit explores the phenomenon’s evolution across time and the globe, including a rich history in the United States, utilizing real stories, artifacts, and immersive media, and touching on the intersecting worlds of nature, science, art, design, military and political history — even fashion and pop culture.

Calling all young recruits! Dive into this America 250-inspired Top Secret Family Guide during your visit, which highlights kid-friendly stops throughout the Museum that introduce the secrets of American intelligence.

Free Walking Tour: Secret History of History (SHH)

Spy Museum

Get outside and spy!  On the Secret History of History (SHH) walking tour, you can learn about the past 250 years of spying in America along a one-mile path through the heart of DC. This self-guided, app-based tour is free to download and begins in front of the International Spy Museum, crossed the National Mall, and ends at Freedom Plaza.
