The President James Monroe Collection: Exhibition and Special Conversation with the White House Historical Association

In Celebration of the American Semiquincentennial

Jul 21, 2026. From: 06:00 PM to 08:30 PM

The Arts Club of Washington is honored to host this Special Conversation in partnership with the White House Historical Association

Our distinguished speakers, former White House Curator, William Allman, and Architectural Photographer, Bruce Whitewill highlight a unique White House collection and the legacy of President James Monroe.

At the start of President James Monroe’s Administration, the President and First Lady resided at 2017 I Street NW, which today the Arts Club of Washington proudly calls home. The Monroes then relocated to the White House, newly rebuilt after the fire of 1814. President and First Lady Monroe created a residence that reflected splendor, social form and gentility, and, to do so, acquired furniture and artifacts, many of which are in the White House Collection today.

Images from the Collection, generously provided by the White House Historical Association, will hang in The Arts Club’s Monroe Parlor, the very room where the last Founding Father to be President hosted his post-inauguration reception.

Please join us as we continue the celebration of our Nation’s 250th Anniversary!
