President Lincolns Cottage hosts the annual Lincoln Ideas Forum to commemorate Lincolns last visit to the Cottage, which was the day before his assassination. The forum brings together scholars, practitioners, and community leaders with distinct expertise and experience to connect the history of this place and what Lincoln accomplished here with how we understand his ideas and life today.
In 2026, America will commemorate its semiquincentennial. While national efforts have favored emphatic celebration over reflective commemoration, President Lincolns Cottage has chosen to use this anniversary to promote empathy and cultivate belonging. Stanford Professor of Psychology, Geoffrey Cohen says that the way we unlearn bias is to ask others to share their perspectives and to truly listen to their responses. Identity is central to the way we make meaning of this anniversary. And so, this years Lincoln Ideas Forum theme is A Vision for America at 250.
