As the United States of America approaches its 250th anniversary, conversations around freedom, democracy and identity are taking center stage across the country. In Washington, DC, the Capital Pride Alliance is ensuring LGBTQ+ voices remain part of that national conversation.
During the annual Capital Pride Reveal event, the organization unveiled its 2026 theme: Exist. Resist. Have the Audacity!
The theme serves as both a celebration and a call to action, affirming that LGBTQ+ people have long shaped the United States through activism, culture, service and community leadership. As the nation reflects on its history and future, the Capital Pride Alliance emphasizes that LGBTQ+ people remain an essential part of the American story despite continued attempts at erasure.
This year’s celebration continues the success in from hosting of WorldPride Washington, DC in 2025 and the 50th anniversary of Pride celebrations in Washington, DC and will bring together the local community, visitors, advocates, artists and allies for two weeks of events and programming throughout the city.

For the Capital Pride Alliance, Pride extends beyond celebration, serving as a platform for advocacy, visibility and community connection while supporting year-round LGBTQ+ programming and outreach through Pride365 and Pride365 Radio.
This includes providing direct support to District-based nonprofit organizations providing essential services. For example, revenue generated during Capital Pride weekend allows us to support the local LGBTQ+ community center by covering 50% of the annual operating costs, helping ensure year-round access to health services, youth programs and community support for thousands of DC residents. The 2026 theme reflects the urgency of this moment, encouraging communities to stand firm against injustice while celebrating the joy, creativity and resilience that continue to define LGBTQ+ communities.
As the nation reflects on its past and future during America’s 250th anniversary, Capital Pride 2026 will highlight the enduring impact of LGBTQ+ people on American history and culture while creating space for joy, resistance and connection.
